OVDs
Optically Variable Devices (OVDs) is an industry term to describe visual security features that are obvious to the naked eye, and reveal an array of different visual effects as the device is moved with respect to the observer. Kinematic effects (movement) and color changing are typical examples of such features. A key feature of OVDs is that they cannot be copied by color copiers or scanners. They also require a high level of expertise, and costly and complex equipment for origination and manufacture. For these reasons they have become a popular security feature on a worldwide scale.
OpSec Security has the industry’s most comprehensive range of OVD technologies. OpSec’s OVD imagery is developed and produced in state-of-the-art laboratories in both the US and the UK.
OpSec's OVD technologies include holography, diffraction grating imaging, liquid crystal technology, and many visual variations within these categories. OpSec’s extensive R&D program has resulted in the capability to combine multiple technologies into a single image in order to create unique OVDs with highly secure features.
Overt Security
OpSec Security offers a wide range of overt security technologies that can be specifically engineered to meet an individual client’s needs. The overt features of the OVD offer instant recognition, and provide the first level of verification by consumers, customs officials, investigators, and law enforcement.
Examples of overt effects that can be included into an image design include the ability to create animation effects, switching of multiple images, and images that exhibit unique visual changes at discrete angles of view. The selection of specific features is determined in collaboration with the client and their specific application. Certain features may not be appropriate for all applications, origination techniques, or materials. OpSec also offers education programs to train targeted audiences to recognize and authenticate the security features of an OVD.
Covert Security
OpSec Security offers multiple covert security features that can be embedded in the OVDs in a layered approach. The selection of covert features and their means of verification are an important consideration in the design of an authentication device. These features are designed for quick and easy verification with a range of tools that are ideally suited for each application.
