Collegiate Licensed Properties Association Chooses OpSec Security to Implement First Collegiate Online Brand Protection Program

Posted on 02 September 2008

BOSTON, Ma --- OpSec Security, Inc., the global leader in anti-counterfeiting and brand protection solutions, today announced that it has been selected by the Collegiate Licensed Properties Association (CLPA) to provide online brand protection services for their member colleges and universities.  The CLPA will now be able to shut down unauthorized sales and IP infringements on Internet auction sites on behalf of their member schools.

The CLPA is a university-owned licensing cooperative managed by the Licensing Resource Group (LRG) of Holland, Michigan. CLPA’s membership includes more than 150 LRG-managed schools and 20 independently-managed universities that represent more than $1.2 billion in licensed retail sales.  The online brand protection program from OpSec Security enables the individual collegiate licensing programs to identify, monitor, and take action against counterfeit and unlicensed products auctioned on eBay.

“The CLPA is the first in the collegiate industry to offer internet monitoring services for all of its members,” said Rick Van Brimmer, CLPA president, and director of trademarks and licensing for Ohio State University. “The online brand protection initiative coupled with our authentication program launched in 2007 will preserve the brand value of the collegiate licensed trademarks.  These schools will be the first to engage in a comprehensive brand protection program that provides security in both physical and digital marketplaces.”

“We are honored to implement the first online brand protection program that will monitor the Internet marketplace for collegiate institutions,” said Jeffrey Unger, president, brand protection, OpSec Security. “CLPA’s member institutions have built their trademark reputation on years of noted integrity and tradition with their fans and supporters.  Unauthorized merchandise sold on eBay undermines CLPA’s mission to ensure these universities are receiving due royalties for products branded with their name and logo.  This unfair trade also challenges their relationship with authorized licensees and their commitment to providing fans with the highest quality products.”

The integration of CLPA’s Internet monitoring initiative, with their existing authentication program, delivers the most effective anti-counterfeiting solution in the collegiate licensing industry.
