Joint Approach Uses Anti-Counterfeiting, Track and Trace Technologies to Increase Security and Efficiency
Blue Bell, PA - Business Wire - February 22, 2005
Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced that it has signed
an agreement with Boston-based GenuOne, Inc., to help the healthcare
and life sciences industries secure their supply chains. GenuOne is a
leading provider of product tracking and authentication software.
As part of the agreement, Unisys will leverage GenuOne software
in its services to help clients meet imminent regulatory and retail
mandates, as well as help clients address additional product safety
initiatives and supply chain efficiency opportunities. The joint
approach will include applications for electronic pedigree, diversion
control and anti-counterfeiting. It is consistent with the federal
Prescription Drug Marketing Act (PDMA) requirements and takes into
consideration the Florida Laws, California requirements and the Model
Rules of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
"The healthcare and life sciences industries are at a tipping
point," said Todd Skrinar, a partner in Unisys Healthcare and Life
Sciences practice. "Our clients believe that shrinking the gaps in the
extended supply chain, while challenging, ultimately serves the best
interest of all partners. They are looking for catalysts to help drive
the transformation and we believe Unisys - with the addition of
GenuOne's commercially deployed software - is in a unique position to
be the driver behind this industry transformation."
As a key component in the company's Global Visible Commerce
strategy, the Unisys Guardian Framework supports a mixed environment of
RFID technologies, smart barcodes, covert inks and other tagging
methods. It integrates with existing enterprise systems that in many
cases are not equipped to handle increasingly large volumes of data
generated by new tracking technologies.
The Unisys framework includes a portfolio of methods, models
and applications for securing supply chains in the consumer product,
retail and pharmaceutical industries. It is based on best practices
Unisys has learned from over 10 years of experience in regulated
environments.
Unisys and GenuOne have integrated a pre-configured template of
GenuOne's TraceGuard track and trace software into the Guardian
Framework. The template acts as an accelerator for healthcare
manufacturers, wholesalers and pharmacies as they pursue patient safety
and brand protection initiatives utilizing electronic track and trace
capabilities.
"The market convergence of anti-counterfeiting, electronic
pedigree and RFID mandates has created a unique opportunity for the
life sciences industry to deploy a unified platform to address these
issues," said Jeffrey Unger, CEO, GenuOne. "We are pleased to have been
chosen by Unisys to be a part of its Guardian offering and are excited
to expand our reach by partnering with a proven secure supply chain
leader."
